A New York Magazine szerint a Black Eyed Peas, a Spinner szerint a  Standing on the Shore (Empire of the Sun), a Guardian szerint a The xx vitt mindent 2009-ben. Ha messziről nézünk rá az év végi zenei toplistákra (iTunes eladások, Last.fm leghallgatottabbak), akkor pedig Lady Gaga tűnik még annak az előadónak, akinek be kell majd ugrania, ha visszagondolunk erre az évre.
